free school origami class

i was wanting to start an origami class at our local free school. uhmm and i was wanting to use some diagrams fro the internet..... joseil's una ratta, kawahatas yoda, maybe teach komatsu's owl as a study in cp maybe not. anyhow.... should i contact the authors of the diagrams before using them in the class? again, the classes are free and stuff. OH! and if anyone just happens to be the washington area, message me and you can participate, or lecture, or something :)

Well, since you're not using them to make profit I don't see why you should really contact them first. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to do so, but as far as I know you should be okay.

If the diagrams are online and free then I don't think there should be any problem with using them in a class. I think the whole idea of releasing diagrams for free is to distribute them quickly and easily.

When and for how long are you planning on teaching he classes? I'm living in Spokane for the summer but I'm in Bellingham during the school year, not too far away from Olympia for me.

Especially since you are using them academically, it should be ok. It may even be ok to use those diagrams if you were charging for the class. There are special exceptions to the law if you are using things for purely academic purposes, but I am no expert on them. And since that was probably more confusing for others than it was for me, it will be ok to use them in a free class since it is not for commercial purposes.

They free online and you want to use them to in class for free, so no money is involved here. I would be honored if somebody would use my diagrams to teach others Origami, certainly if I had published them on the net. Maybe you can even "recruit" some new foot soldiers for our unholy army of folders :twisted:.
