Octagon shaped cap

Post by gerd »

Hi,

this is my first post on this forum. I'm not in to originami, but I'm sure members of this forum will be able to unpuzzle this problem for me...

I'm in the process of trying to make a cap like the one pictured below.

It has a carboard body that was covered with cloth. It's like a strip of carboard was cut and folded here and there to give the cap the shape, the cardboard was stapled to form a sort if octagon ring, and then it was covered with cloth. The cloth was folded and sewn were the cardboard got the folds.
I held it in my hands and looked very simple... But starting from a simple strip of cardboard it's very hard to reconstruct. :-k

Would someone be able to recognize how the body of this cap was made, and draw the strip of cardboard? (The shape of the strip and the way it needs to be folded in order to get the octagon-like shape)?

Oh, the front part is in fact just one panel. The stitched fold in the cloth gives it a bit the illusion that it are two panels of 'the octagon'.

Thanks!
