I need help with Noboru Miyajima's Angel!

Post by suntailhawk »

hi guys, it is my first time posting. I found this crease pattern of this beautiful angel:

http://www.h5.dion.ne.jp/~origami/e/angel.html

However, it is a bit complex. I do have a bit of knowledge regarding the crease patterns and how to follow them. I'm simply stuck in this case. I tried dividing the paper into thirds, but it didn't look right.... Can someone kindly give me a helping hand, as I'm trying to fold this model as a hoilday gift for people. Please and tahnks you~!

Well we do have forums on crease patterns in general, but I would just printe it out (not puristic but oh well), then mess with it until you find land mark folds, then you should be able to figure somthing out.

Again you could print it, fold it, send it, if you can not figure it out.

No, it isn't thirds. You can find the reference points like this:

Red lines are actually in the CP. Grey lines are just to show the construction.

Has anyone had any success with collapsing the base?
I've almost got it but I'm having trouble with getting the face right. Any suggestions?

I figured it out using Aznman's method - print it out, fold the obvious lines, mess around until you find a reference point.

I've just got the base collapsed. I'm not sure how the face and hair is going to work, but there seem to be a couple of different ways to arrange the layers. Unfortunately I've got a tear down the middle of my paper, so I'll have to start again with a new sheet.

I also had trouble with the face. The little star shaped thing in the middle, (I assume that becomes the face, and maybe some of that hair stuff on the top of his head). But I will try again.

(only the part with the little bird base is shown)

-valley folds are in blue, mountain folds in red
-the left part show intermediary step, the right one show what it should look like at the end
-flap 2 goes under flap one
-flap 3 will be under flap 2
-flap 4 goes down
-flap 5 will be against flap 6
-flap 8 is ont he top of flap 6
-flap 9 lies against flap 8
-flap 7 is at the top of flaps 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9, and all these will be placed between flaps 1 and 2

repeat on the other side
then take flaps 6,7,8,9, and put them at the top of flap one

It should look like this
I hope it helps, I may be completely wrong but it seems to work.

Yeah, that looks right, but I will have to fold it again from scratch to be sure.
