Twisted Wire Art

Post by thedeadsmellbad »

Made by the members of Yahoo Group Twisted Wire Art!

My friend Summer Barnett taught me how to make a scorpion, it took less than 10 minutes & was easy to remember. I couldn't find anything online about the subject, so I made some makeshift instructions and posted them. Now others have learned & taken it further with new models. Seeing their creations I has inspired me in turn to create new things.

I hope this is easy enough to learn from.
If you make one please post a photo!
Use this same method to come up with your own creations!!!!

Lesson #1
Image
Wire Twisted Scorpion.
I will add instructions for different models upon request.

1.12 wires, equal length
2.Divide wires into 2 groups of 4 and 8. 8 wires = Legs, 4 = everything else.
3.Loop 8 wires in the center.
4.Left over right.
5.Finished loop.

ImageImageImageImageImage

6.All wires must loop the same, Left over right.
7.8 wires with loop. All Left over right. Finished.
8.Place the 4 wires into all the loops.
9.Loops are all the same direction.
10.Make the loops tight.

ImageImageImageImageImage

11.Finished view.
12.View from behind.
13.Bend over the front, to the opposite side. Use the first wire.
14.Bend behind to the opposite side. Use the same wire.
15.Repeat step 13-14 with top wire. (Opposite side, opposite direction.)

ImageImageImageImageImage

16.View of steps 1-15 complete.
17.Repeat step 15 on all wires. (16 total, 8 on each side.)
18.Finished close up view.
19.Turn model over. Close up view of back side.
20.Long side of body pointing up.

ImageImageImageImageImage

21.Seperate 2 wires on one side. Use the top wires.
22.Twist 2 wires together.
23.Repeat on all other wires, both sides.
24.Finished twisting legs.
25.Wrap 1 wire around the other 3.

ImageImageImageImageImage

26.Wrap 1 wire around the other 2.
27.Wrap 1 wire around the last wire. Use half the length to wrap, use other half to form the stinger.
28.Turn model over.
29.Seperate wires into 2 pairs.
30.Twist each pair. Partial twist. Less than halfway.

ImageImageImageImageImage

31.Trim the legs and claws. Use wire cutters.
32.Bend the legs above the body.
33.Bend the legs below the body. Shape the claws and tail.

Finished veiw of the completed model.

Wow, those are awesome. Is the larger scorpion (pictured in green) made pretty much the same way, but with more/longer wires?

Thank you, I believe she used the same amount, but used more length on the 4 wires making the tails and claws. She also used a wire similiar to the flat twist tie wires covered in a flat plastic used to seal bread bags with.

Exist some books about wire art, or some web sites with patterns.

To my knowledge there is nothing out there yet about this particular style of wire twisted art.

Here is the first post I have seen since I made the video.
It looks like the person who made it is in Sweden. :)
As far as I know, this is the first "non-paper folder" to try it!
