Hi All,

this has probably been my fastest project. I asked for permission yesterday, got it, and made the video. Now it's up:

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v0Eou-Ive8
Happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-guth-jump

Many thanks to Hans-Werner Guth for this great model, giving me permission, and responding super fast.

(Yeah, I've still got a long list of videos to do, but sometimes I just feel like doing something different.)

-- Sara

P.S. I know people are going to ask why I didn't make a video on Llopio's Moment of Truth (Neal Elias) first. The simple answer is: I really felt like making a video on this, and really didn't feel like making a video on Llopio's Moment of Truth. It was also a much easier project, and my non-origami life is somewhat busier right now than usual. Hope you guys understand.

Hi all,

it's my pleasure to announce my most recent video. It features Dave Brill's superb box and lid - from a single sheet of paper.

Picture: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-brill-box_and_lid
Video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNmmuCIHkBE
Video on Happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... ox_and_lid
[English and German subtitles available]

I'm also using this box for my wedding favors, and made a quick blurb video on that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uoMCHI2upY
http://www.happyfolding.com/vlog_update ... -lid_brill

Thank you again to Dave Brill, who's always been exceptionally generous, and was one of my first supporters in this project.
If you don't know his website yet - http://www.brilliantorigami.com - do check it out. It not only features some of his paintings and beautifully folded models, but also so diagrams to download. It seems that area keeps on growing, too. :)

All the best wishes and happy folding,

Hi All,

after all, I managed to make a video this month. I wasn't sure I'd be able to, being a bit busy the first half of the month, getting married and such. ;)

So here it is, my first video as Mrs. Adams!

UPDATE: Video reply with better assembly method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwV8S7bDArU

Hi All,

I've just finished uploading my newest instructional video. It features Hans-Werner Guth's Eifel Star.

Video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp0jlD7_YYM
Video on happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... eifel_star
Image: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-guth-eifel_star
Pdf diagrams: http://www.happyfolding.com/diagrams

There are two twists to this video, which I am sure you will discover quickly.

1. I added verbal instructions in German.
Fear not, this does not mean I'll stop making videos with English instructions. This is just a small test how the German-speaking community reacts to videos in this format. You'll also see that this video was uploaded to a different channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/papierfalten
I decided to make a clear distinction between English and German videos, and a separate channel seems like a good way of doing this.
I also added English subtitles. If they're not active, click the "CC" button in the lower right corner. It may be in a submenu that you can access by pressing a small up arrow, also located in the lower right corner of the video play area.

2. I added diagrams to the video.
While I'm explaining the model, I decided to also show how I diagrammed each step. I hope this will help viewers see the correlation between diagrams and video instructions. I'm not sure whether I can do this often in the future, it was a happy coincidence that I'd diagrammed the model the day before (thanks, Hans-Werner for your permission for both making diagrams and the video!).

I'd be interested to hear from you whether a video with German text is still interesting and valuable to you. I by no means want to alienate you, so I'm happy to take very honest responses to this.

Anyways, happy folding - and happy listening to my voice when I speak German!

Hi All,

yes, it's video time again.
This time it's in English again, so there's just one twist: I again added diagrams in the top left corner of the video.

Many thanks to Andrew Hudson for this fantastic design, giving me permission to present it in a video, and providing me with the raw data for the pdf diagrams he created. Even more, he updated them, too. :)

As always, here are the links:

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf9yg8kmD-0

I've added closed captions again, in English and German as always. If you find mistakes, do report them and I'll correct them.

Happy Halloween, and happy folding,

Hi All,

yes, it's video time again.

I finished two new videos:

1. How to cut a pentagon from a square
http://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-pentagon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83nKgFUiu-M&

2. Carambola by Carmen Sprung
http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... -carambola
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fodWTAiL3jI
Many thanks to Carmen for this fantastic model and giving me permission to make it accessible to you. Carmen taught this new model at the CDO convention (in Italy), and I immediately fell in love with it. I'm sure many of you will, too!
Also check Carmen's site, which has lots of valuable resources: http://www.origamiseiten.de/ - the site is in German, so you can try the automatic translation by Google: http://translate.google.com/translate?j ... seiten.de/ (short url: http://goo.gl/92HDx )

And OrigamiUSA has a new, cool origami magazine called The Fold. Full access is granted to OrigamiUSA members, but a couple of articles are also open access to give you a sneak peek. One of those open access articles is an article I wrote. I'll be writing a guide to how to make origami videos, and it's the first in the series: http://www.origami-usa.org/thefold001_v ... tion_guide
I'll happily take comments and suggestions for what you are most interested in.
Also, if you'd like to contribute an article to The Fold on the topic of origami videos, do get in touch with me. For all other topics, do check the list of editors of The Fold: http://www.origami-usa.org/thefold_editors

Happy folding,

Hi All,

I'm happy to announce my next instructional video, and it's not just a model I absolutely love, but one which also fits the season very well:
a snowflake designed by Jared Needle

Picture: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-needle-snowflake
Video: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... -snowflake http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAoJvrh5ajg

Thanks to Jared Needle for a superb snowflake design - probably my favorite of all I've seen, and for giving me permission to make a video on how to fold it accessible to you.
The video also includes the diagrammed steps, those diagrams are also available at http://origamiweekly.blogspot.com/2009/ ... abbit.html

I've also added English and German captions, so if you don't have audio or prefer muting the video, do give those a try. If you find errors (and I'm sure there are plenty), do let me know and I'll correct them.

Happy folding,

Hi All,

I am excited to tell you about my new video. This time round I did more than "just" show you how to fold a model. I tried to give you some insights into how to put together your own tessellation. In the video I work on the example of Ilan Garibi's "Bricks", and a small variation of mine, which I'll call "Big Bricks".

It'd be great to hear from you what you think of this kind of video. In particular, it may be of more interest to some of you out there that aren't keen followers of my videos, because I tried to incorporate much more background information, rather than the folding of one model.

Picture: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-garibi-bricks
Crease Pattern: http://www.happyfolding.com/files/Garib ... cks-CP.pdf
Video: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... ams-bricks
Video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lPoHxTVrkE
(and my first recording, resulting in a 1-hour video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Tg9HUdO2kE )

Also thanks to Ilan Garibi, who showed me how to fold Bricks at the CDO 2010 convention. He also taught me many of the things I present in this video, and inspired me to look into it further and was great partner in our discussion about this. I'm sure some of what I figured out on the way is already known to the tessellation experts out there, but I don't think it's been widely spread amongst the community yet. I also know there's much more to say, but do hope this is a nice intro to how to make tessellations - in particular, also your own designs.
If you're one of those experts and are interested in collaborating with me on a possible follow-up video with more insights, do get in touch with me! (For example, it might include information on 2D tessellations and the rules that apply for the crease patterns then.)

Happy folding,

Hi All,

Valentine's Day is drawing near, and because I believe making something for those special to you is a great way of showing you care about them... I've decided to try and make two videos related to love.

The first one just went online. It's the "Lovers Ring" by Francis Ow, a super-cute ring with a heart.

PDF diagrams: http://www.happyfolding.com/diagrams
Image: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-ow-lovers_ring
Video on Happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-ow-lovers_ring
Video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQMwWJ-vlJU

You'll surely notice that the video is in German. :)
I've provided English subtitles, though, and the video is probably also clear enough even without any spoken words.

Thanks to Francis for giving me permission to present this model - both in diagrams, and in the video!

Best wishes, and happy folding,

-- Sara
