Hi Shanti,
Here are some pics, I hope these help. The important one is reversing the point in the Genie(the 3rd one).

Hi Shanti,
Revisiting this fold caused me to complete a poem I started in 1974.
Click the link and click the Genie Pic to read it. It applies to our difficulty with this fold.

Thank you Myxtyplx
I like your poem.
I still can't fold this origami. This is the best I could do.

Not at all like yours or the one in the book :(
I'm probably making a mistake somewhere in the first steps.

Very nice. This model well done. And, I like that the two pictures show slightly different personalities.

>>> In Elias's Diagrams:
On the second page, the bottom picture: "Make White Stretched Bird Base" looks consistent with your picture... I think the white corner within the shaded bird base is straight, while the colored corner is folded.

In the previous step, When you Mountain fold the top and bottom, the shaded part on the bottom is supposed to be on the outside, accomplished by holding the circles. When I do this and pull out the stretched bird base, then the colored part remains on the outside.
>>>>

On the next page, I am not sure how to "sink the corner into the genie" ... I see it as more like a reverse fold, allowing the genie to fold upward.

And ...

I'm not sure about reversing the point of the genie (3rd photo in the photo diagrams above)

If anyone is interested or has difficulties with this origami look at these photos of how I made mine. The join between genie and lamp was hardest for me so I've made many photos of that.
I started with A3 paper and cut it into a rectangle the size of two squares. One side of the paper is blue for the genie and the other is yellow for the lamp. Then I cut the squares apart leaving about 1/5 joined.

Then I made each square into a bird base. One blue, one yellow.

Then I folded the join like this:

Continued...
This is the part I was stuck on. Its many folds in one step. I don't know how to describe this so I made many photos.

If anyone has difficulties with this or further on, write and I can take more photos.
