Good luck with the wrapping paper, i have yet to find any that doesnt look worn and cracked by the time i was finished. I did just fold this model using a big roll of craft paper from staples and it worked great with a giant square.
If you are looking for cheap huge paper, this stuff has worked better than any of the wrapping apper i tried for the AD or DD. It is big, cheap and has nice color:
Okay so far so good, I love the insanely fun pleating. Step 66 though, I don't fully understand. Can someone clarify it? It's just a tad hard for me to see in my copy of the book.
I don't see what it's doing clearly and I DO NOT want to rip it and have to go through the prefolding again
Step 66 is the first difficult step I think. You are essentially petal folding the middle, but on the left side you are re-collapsing on the creases made from 22-27. When you unfolded those steps (see step 28 ) there are some lines extending from the lines going along the diagonal, you are re-collapsing on those creases.
razz--i know you've been here for awhile and know better. i am quite certain ragnarox has photo-diagrams of that exact step within the past 10-15 pages. it may even be that he posted it twice.
Does anyone have any tips for precisely trisecting the flap in step 25? I can get it close by eyeballing it but always end with a mess when I have to extend the creases in the next step.

to be honest, nowadays, i just use a ruler and mark it out.
if you wish to be a purist, you can use a variant of the haga's theory (sp?). that is, partition a square the width of the flap in your mind. this is usually easiest at the top or bottom of the flap. now divide that square as you normally would using the haga theorum. obviously the weakness is that you've now added some creases, which is why i just measure odd divisions nowadays (as those divisions are getting odder and odder).
@Joshuaorigami - The picture is good, but the angle is the problem. I played with it, using Photoshop, but couldn't easily separate the head and the body.
I think I'd have to separately change the lighting and contrast of the head and of the body.
You might try changing the angles, maybe from above or below. And, maybe making the light a little harsher (?) to make the head brighter and the body a little darker, to improve the contrast....
Hey guys,im new to this forums.
I just finished 2nd try on ancient dragon and failed again (took 10h per try).
On both tries i used gift wrapping paper
.First time i used 45cm square andaround step 120 it was so thick i couldnt do anything and had to stop.
On second try i used same paper now 70 cm square and i cant finish it because head part is beyond broken, theres so many layers around had that even the big size of the paper didnt help.
Im kinda obsessed now with finishing ancient dragon now.Im preparing double tissue as we speak, will 50cm square be big enough?
How do You handle the head part so it dont shred or open? Theres so many creases and layers there .
Would it be possible to ceate head a bit earlier, for example before creating wings?
Thanks guys
Edit
My dragons tail is open at the top, around which step You close it? i Cant figure it out.
