Inkscape users wanted!

Post by Tavin »

Hello dear folders.
I want to make a Tutorial "How to diagram Origami using inkscape"

I have in mind to make a Video and a PDF-guide. For that project I'm looking for other folders that want to help. Also people with no inkscape knowledge can help.

Any feedback is welcome.

Hm, I've done some diagramming with Inkscape, but I fear I don't have enough time to devote to yet another side project. :(
What's your timeline?

I had the same idea while ago, made a start of one page (lol!).
So I would want to think along, though I don't really have a lot of time.

@Sara As you see my time-line is quite loose.

@all thanks for volunteering to help.

The main Problem is I don't know where to start. Should we assume the reader knows how to diagram in general? Should I explain every bit of inkscape or just say "read the inkscape help"?

point of beeing: I'm still on this project it's not dead. Help and feedback are still appreciated

It seems like it would be a huge guide if you also included how to diagram properly. Also, there are many different styles of diagramming, so it might be good just to teach the basics of Inkscape and how they can be used for diagramming. this article by Lang is great for learning diagramming conventions. I think it would be fine to assume at least a basic understanding of diagramming.

Good Point. So I probably should collect all the tricks inkscape diagrammers found for quicker and better diagramming.

I use Mr. Lang's Diagramming Series as a Bible of diagramming it is really a mustread if you want start diagramming.

i kinda did that already, here:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7765&hilit=diagram+starter

Pretty much all the 'basics' are there, but you could expand on it easily. :)

Something that might be interesting to put in it, is how to get the mountain fold be a dash-dot-dot. It is not a standard option in Inkscape but is easily fixed. I can provide the info if you are interested. (requires adding 3 or four lines of text in a file, basically coding)

Hello everyone 8 years later, some videos do exist on how to diagram and also on how to diagram with inkscape.

good start on how to use inkscape by jo nakashima: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TMICjVvALc
my attempt on showing how to read origami diagrams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8g-OkNafSo

@FlareglooM I know how to edit the code of a line so it's dsh-dot-dot is the a way to add it to the interface too?
