This part is a little hard to explain. For 79 , just take the middle and pinch. Make sure(checking with step 90) that your valley and mountain folds are in the right spot.(They should be precreased.) After pinching and making sure its in the right spot, valley up. This creates a 3D model, and will not lie flat until 82. In 80, push in that precreased gray area, and fold along the mountain and valley lines. In 81, you make a crimp that will, when folded up, result in a flat model. Hope this helps!
Folding is everything, and everything is folding

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Unicorn
getting ready to fold this amazing model again! for the fourth time! the first couple of times i folded this model i used various types of tracing paper in various sizes. this time im going to make some special foil tissue to fold it. the back legs especially are composed of alot of layers and to truly achieve that "lean muscle" look that kamiya is so good at achieving, i think one must use tissue paper. one of my favorite models to fold though. good luck!

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Unicorn
So far I've folded a pegasus and kirin. Am I ready to try or should I do something else first? Both came out looking quite good.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Unicorn
i say go for it....if you can fold the pegasus and kirin than you should be able to tackle the unicorn. be advised though, use thin and BIG paper because the back legs end up quite thick and need to be thinned quite a bit to acheive the "lean" appearance that the completed photo shows. other than that the model is pretty straight forward and fun to fold. good luck!

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Unicorn
first, keep in mind that the model will not fold flat until step 92. so, in step 89 you will open the flap and squash fold down. that creates the next flap you will be folding. fold that flap down and the model should lay flat. hopefully that helps a little bit. im not sure though...im assuming you know how to squash fold. good luck!

To piggyback The Average Folder, I'm going to post pictures to compliment his fantastic explanation. (His post is at the beginning of this page, explaining the very steps you're having trouble with.)

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Unicorn
All the creases are there already, the only new crease in the sequence is at the very end when you're squashing the large flap flat.

Re: Satoshi Kamiya - Unicorn
I tried this, after doing his smilodon and pegasus.
Lets just say I failed. I used 35cm origami-shop foil, I guess it wasn't big enough for my skill level. Also it was the first time I'd ever used foil paper. I didn't really like it.

I know how you feel, toto. I tried it after making the pegasus, and got screwed up around step 60
