Monthly folding challenge: May 2011

Post by Sunburst »

The subject for this monthly challenge will be : puppets. Puppets are actually quite common in origami, mostly as finger puppets and heads with opening mouths. These are allowed, of course, but you can expand the definition to any kind of puppet. Crazy folders (like me) could even try to fold string puppets like the one below for example.

Image

Rules:
- Additionnal paper/material are allowed only to support and/or help the movement of the puppet;
- Allowed starting shapes ; square, rectangle, circle, triangle, any other regular polygon;
- Rest of the rules is the usual «no cuts, original model only, etc».

The judge for this month will be snowblue.

Have fun!

This is an excellent subject ! And congrats to snowblue !

I hope I'll find more time to take part than last month, 'cause I've had something in the back of my mind for a while which I think would make a good contribution...

So here's my entry :

This is a single puppet, representing two of the main characters of Little Red Riding Hood, I present to you the Big Bad Wolf and Grand Ma. The puppet can be worn much as a glove, half a turn of the wrist will show the other character.

From a single uncut 50cm x 75cm sheet + MC.

a very good creation Gachepapier that's remember me some puppet in my childhood :D =D>
by cons, if I may say so, I find that the tail of the wolf lack of modeling compared to the rest of the model. (This is really quibbling history)

how I'm going to post my puppet after this post

Thanks :) ! Actually the tail got a little flattened as I put the model on the shooting setting and I did not realise until you noted it. I might try to get a better shot before the end of the month ;).

Here's my entry

Image
ostrich puppet par -sebl-, sur Flickr

An ostrich puppet from a 40/40 cm square of triple foil with MC
a very easy conception from the waterbomb base
legs and head have been weighted with small nuts
it works very well and the neck oscillates

If I have the time I'll make a video of this puppet
