Christmas Origami Book 2009

Postby origami_8 » October 3rd, 2009, 5:46 pm

Dear all,

For the fourth time there will be an Origami Christmas book this year.
This will be a book from creators to creators containing previously unpublished instructions only.

That's how it works:
Everyone who wants to participate sends me (at least) one previously unpublished folding instruction. Afterwards I assemble them all into a pdf-file with a table of contents and send it back to all participants. In the end everyone of them gets a nice compilation of diagrams that aren't available elsewhere.

Everyone who wants to take part can send his/her instructions to
Origamibook AT gmail DOT com
(Replace "AT" with "@" and "DOT" with ".")

The last date to send your instructions is December 15.

Hopefully many people will contribute to this project so that we´ll get a nice book together :)

Yours Anna

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some questions (and their answers) that have been asked before:

* Do I need to send computer drawn diagrams?
No, hand drawn diagrams or other clear instructions (photo or text) count as well.

* Can I send more than one diagram?
Yes of course, as much as you want.

* Can I have a copy of the book without sending something in?
No, this project is thought as an exchange of folding instructions and not to earn money with it. If you don´t have an own model to diagram maybe you can draw diagrams for someone else´s model, so that you two can participate as one person. For help in finding someone see here:
http://snkhan.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1810

* Have the models to be Christmas related?
No they don't. Christmas is just the date you will receive the book.

* Can I send Crease Patterns and Text Instructions as well?
Yes, but make sure to also send a picture of the finished model.
Diagrams are preferred.

* Is it possible to obtain the books of the previous years?
Yes, by sending more than one unpublished diagram, you can "buy" previous editions (one book per additional diagram).
If you send more than one diagram and want to obtain back issues please tell which one(s) you want.

* How many participants contributed in previous years?
2008:
56 authors sent in a total of 90 models (17 Crease Patterns, 6 photo instructions, 5 text instructions).
The book was 287 pages long and 29 MB in size.
2007:
48 participants sent in a total of 70 instructions (16 Crease Patterns, 4 photo instructions).
The book was 13 MB in size and 176 pages long.
2006:
32 Authors have sent in a total of 49 Models (5 Crease Patterns).
The book was 147 pages long and 24 MB in size.

Informations about the last three books can be found here:

A word of warning-- if your internet is too slow to send in diagrams, it will DEFINITELY be too slow to download the finished book. Last year the book was 30 MB, and it's gotten bigger every year, so I'd expect this one to be at least 34 MB.

And everyone, please put some effort into your submissions-- this isn't an easy way to get free diagrams, it's a way to show off your diagramming work. If all you want is free diagrams, go to my blog-- I've been posting a new diagram every week since January. And I'm sure there are some you haven't folded...

I'm planning to submit diagrams for a money fold I came up with, and maybe a CP to another model depending on people's reaction to it.

If someone has troubles downloading the book, I will find another solution like splitting it up into some zip files.

But I like to second what Andrew said, please try to give your best for these diagrams. We had some really fantastic submissions the last years and you don't want your diagrams to look like crap between them.

that's a wonderful idea - a christmas book from folders for folders.
thanks a lot, anna, for your your efforts to fill, finish and distribute the book every christmas!
may i enter this years' list of authors with an instruction for my kingfisher?

I'm submitting the diagrams for my Beetle. And possibly my Snow Shovel, when I finish them.

Hi! It's been a long while since I've been active on here. I deleted my Dropbox years ago, so some things, like my Dragonfly Varileg guide, are lost to time. I may still have other things, though! Email me if you have any questions.

Just a reminder to all people who participate NOT to publish or give away diagrams you submitted before the Christmas book is published. You wouldn't want to miss your chance to get the Christmas book because you were to eager to share your diagrams :)
So long and keep folding ^_^

would it be a problem to publish a christmas diagram after december 24 at other places, too, or would you prefer it to remain exclusive?

The last few years we asked participants to keep the diagrams exclusive until the end of January to make it more special. What you do with your diagrams afterwards is up to you :)

I have a tessellation that I've been working on that I might like to submit.
It's a bit tricky trying to draw diagrams for a tessellation, but I could provide the CP and some photos of various stages of the construction. Would that be okay?

Do the hermit crab! I really liked it when I saw it at the con. It looks complex enough that I might have trouble folding it from just a CP so diagrams would be great.

Oh no, this is a different hermit crab. One with all the legs! But I might do the simple one if you want.
