Flickr redesign

Post by kareshi »

Flickr.com, which hosts the majority of our photo collections, has been redesigned, as most of you are aware. If not, here's the deal-

-One terabyte of space, which is enough for 200,000 5-megabyte (fairly hi-res) photos.
-Ads, somewhere?
-A paid Pro account is still the only way to view Stats, and removes ads.
-Videos are still max 90 seconds, which is still lame.
-Interface is weird but I'm sure we'll get used to it.
-Titles and descriptions are harder to see.

I think it will take some getting used to, but I'm pretty happy with the new look of the photostream.
It displays a lot more images without having to click "Next Page".

I hate it. It's too big and in my face. I like small thumbnails and whitespace. The old version displayed something like 15 thumbnails on the first screen, I could easily glance and see what was new from my contacts and groups. Now I see one photo taking up the entire screen, scroll down a full screen and have seen 2, etc.

It deliberately hides the picture descriptions, and seems to assume I'll always have my browser maximized.

I rather liked it when it was a photo sharing community website, I don't like it as a photo viewing app.

2 words: It sucks.

Hate when sites do this :? They try to make things look nice, but they mess up the things. They can add what ever they want but why mess whit the visual side of the thing.

I haven't checked out the website yet, but the flickr app on my mobile is greatly improved. It will take some getting used to but I won't need my laptop anymore. Now I can watch groups aswell. Although I do think that the app will eat mb :-o

I agree completely. If it ran faster, that is one thing, but it is even slower! What a waste of time and effort on their part. They should've just given us more free space.

Great words of wisdom: if it isn't broken, don't fix it. they went and "fixed" something perfectly fine, and ruined it. the app is better, though.

Ahaha kyle, great comment. IMO, it takes WAY too long to comment on a picture and it takes forever to look at someone's photostream. I dont really like it..
I would rather fail trying than fail without trying....

I think it's not too bad but the recent activity/uploads feed is a pile of rubbish, but since they got rid of the 200 photos limit I'll live with it. I use an app called flickstackr anyway which works well, I don't use Flickr on the computer that often...
