New Kamiya Model
Kamiya has a new design! http://www.folders.jp/g/2013/1303.html
The description says there are diagram production plans soon. Does anyone know how long that will be? I love the looks of this model.

Thanks for sharing, Justin. Looks awesome! I feel like the legs need a pose though, anyone agree? I'm in no position to criticize the masters works, but I feel like the legs should be shaped more. Nonetheless, it still is an awesome model!

Less complex, yeah. His new models are still over 100 steps though.

I do like the simplicity of his newer models, but still... i love to fold some complex 22.5 models every now and again.

nope, simple things always become complex in the end.

Re: New Kamiya Model
There is something beautiful about folding a model from a reasonably sized piece of paper.
There is something ugly about folding a model from a giant piece of paper, using glue, supports, and wires.

Re: New Kamiya Model
Kamiya's designs are both complex and elegant in their design. Even if they weren't, they still look amazing. Origami is art, there shouldn't be lots of strict rules. It's almost like saying only a modern art painting with a few brush strokes is elegant and the classic paintings are ugly because they're complex and time consuming. I know many people don't like the Kamiya hype of especially young members of the origami community, but these Kamiya lovers are just inspired by his models. It's inspired me throughout my origami career and pushed my folding skills forward.
Kamiya switching over to simple stuff wouldn't be a great thing for the world of origami. It would be an artist's decision and nothing else.

I simply said there is /something/ beautiful, and /something/ ugly.
Re: New Kamiya Model
You just went a bit over the top by saying that kamiya moving on to simpler stuff would be a blessing to the world of origami. I kind of assumed your position from there, maybe I got you wrong.Razzmatazz wrote:I simply said there is /something/ beautiful, and /something/ ugly.

My position is that origami should avoid being pulled into the special construction arts where you need more than paper to make it look good.topsu wrote:I kind of assumed your position from there, maybe I got you wrong.
