Origami Board Game

I really think there should be an origami board game. I'm actually working on it right now and here's some of what I have so far.

Objective: The objective of the game is to defeat the other player(s) by destroying their avatars, which would be origami models of course.

Play: The "resources" will be scraps of paper left over from previous games (this will make sense in a bit). Players go around the board collecting resources and trading them in for sheets of paper. Players then trade more resources for "fold points", which allow each player to fold a model to a certain point. The players can then place the model on the board somewhere (probably next to the avatar so it would be like a summoning) and the players could move the models around and destroy other models with abilities and whatnot. Now here is the fun part: whenever a model is destroyed, the player who destroyed it gets to rip it up and generally turn it into shreds of paper. Players can also cast spells.

Of course, the whole difficulty with this idea is creating all of the models necessary. I only have one model that I think I might include in the game and it's a treant that I designed. I was just wondering if people can come up with other stuff. Game mechanics are also appreciated (I kind of have a Wizard's of the Coast-esque thing going right now).

To silentmagesoul: Wow! interesting idea! I don't really like the ripping up models, though... kinda makes me sad :(

To rockmanex6: What game is that?

Your game sounds so brutal, I wouldn´t play a game where I have to rip a paper.
How about a game where you get the instructions for some pieces of a construction set. Everytime you get a new part, you have to fold it and assemble it with your previous parts. You can get on fields, where you loose a part or have to give it to another player, or have to change one in. Target would be to build a castle, robot, ... the first recognizable model wins.

Cool photo rockmanex6, have you folded the parts yourself or is it someone elses work?

:D So, Anna, you mean a modular-origami boardgame? With modules, there would be less ripping!

What!? No! I thought I was the first one to think of that! My life is flashing before my eyes! I can't live anymore. . .

But seriously, that looks like an awesome board game. Again, I wish I really had thought of it first.

As for the brutal ripping, I wanted to add an element that would make it so much more painful to lose because the players would probably spend a great deal of time folding their avatars. It would be a source of pride for those who have won many times in a row and have kept the same avatar for a really long time.

Modular is a good idea, but I somewhat doubt the feasibility of making good organic models with them (i.e. dragons, etc.). Of course, the entire thing could just be mechs, but I would think those would get tiring.

By the way, where did you find that picture rockmanex6?

You haven't seen what Max Hulme does with modulars yet. Look here and here for examples :-)

I think you're going to have a very, very small target audience. I think it's more reasonable to fold a known board game out of paper. Chess and Icehouse Pyramids are the two that would be easiest, as workable models already exist...

I don't think the game that rockhead posted is a real game, but mearly a game with pieces substitued with origami models...Not sure though.

For modules, you could make one of those swans made from about 500 triangles (like I am :D )... but they do take a long time and a lot of paper!

Yes, but those models are too big for any board game, and working with small modules would be very hard.
