Is there a simple way to fold a square into perfect 5ths? Or do I have to get out the ruler and divide up the length?

Yes - divide into 8 and cut 3/8 off. If you're feeling brave and can't recycle the 3*8 strips, start into 6ths.

I found a nice simple way
1. fold in half diagonally.
2. bisect that angle (fold 1 half of a kite base)
where it reaches the edge that is 2 fiths and the rest is easy

This is a problem which was solved by medieval monks who illuminated manuscripts, its called a Lindesfarne star.
Thirds and Fifths are easy, now try and figure out some of the other primes.
