Rose stem

Post by stanhco2 »

I'm gonna be making kwasaki roses for Valentines day and instead of using paper as the stem, do you think using stem wire and green floral tape would look better? I don't really like the paper stem.

Thats what the stem wire looks like. Just wanna get other peoples opinions on this.

I find that stem wire is too spindly, even when wrapped in green floral tape (unless you use a LOT of it), and looks unnatural.

What I've been doing is buying a pack of wooden dowels (they come in several different thicknesses) and soak them in hot water for a couple of hours, until they are a little flexible. Then I strap them onto a wine bottle, bending the dowels to follow the curve of the bottle, and leave them to dry overnight. When they are dried, I wrap them in floral tape.

They look a little more realistic, with a "natural" curve to them.
