Question about squares
I've been designing a lot of models lately using rectangles, particularly the 'silver rectangle'. Is folding using non-square paper shapes like rectangles seen as bad, and if so why?
You can fold with whatever papershape you like to, it´s not bad but not puristic either. No one can force you to obey on a puristic reglement that some strange purists have chosen to follow...
Everyone has to decide on his own what´s allowed and what not, if you want to use glue, do it, if you want to use cuts, do it, but don´t expect others to do it as well. I myself wouldn´t ever use cuts or glue, but allow myself other (not too strange) shapes than squares like rectangles and hexagons (but please no pentagons or heptagons, they are so ugly to cut).
PS: I regard myself as strange purist too...

this thread shows some of my models. The dragonfly and two butterflies are made with silver rectangles, the white snail made with an equilateral triangle, the dodecahedron 12 units which are silver rectangles but 1.5 times longer. The rest are squares.
Yeh I agree. Its like Yoshizawa said ''you can fold with any shape as long as the corners point out not in''orion119net wrote:I have no problem with folding from different shapes. As long as its not something like folding an octopus from an eight-pointed star...
kind regards
