New Sandwich paper type

Post by ericmadrigal »

Dear friends:

For those people who enjoy folding with sandwich paper or for those who have had a bad experience folding with it, I have design a new recipe that solve must problems found in this kind of paper. I call it sandwich paper E-type. New recipe: tissue paper + aluminium + waxpaper or onionskin paper. All glued with spray adhesive. With these paper you will have a bright surface in one side and a opaque white surface in the other and you could use any side in convenience with the origami model, or both surfaces for changed-color models. Also, the paper is not much thick, but surely more resistent. It is easier to perform all folding process, even changing from valley to mountain fold. If you need more information please send me a private messange or write to eric_madrigal_cr@hotmail.com. I will post some models I have folded with this paper in Pajarita page gallery, soon.
Sorry for my bad english, but I hope your have undestand the information.

Best Regards,

Post received from Mr. Robert Lang

Hi Eric,

The pictures look very nice! They don't have the "rumpled" look that
tissue/foil/tissue often has. If you were to describe your recipes on the
o-list I'll bet there would be a lot of interested people.

Best regards,

Robert

If you can't fold it, try a bazooka.

Dear Eric, if you want to promote your variation of tissue foil (with just different paper) do it here and don´t open up new topics, one is enough.

Dear Anna, thank you and I undestand the process. I have found that this sandwich paper could be a good oportunity for people as for many of them it is imposible to get high quality papers so, they can use very cheap and available papers ( tissue, foil, wax paper) and get models that have the quality of expensives papers. Usually sandwich papers were put aside as they were not really very resistent and with the addition of wax or onionskin paper its resistence strongly increase.

Also, I changed my flickr address.

Best Regards

Eric, the models you folded from this new kind of paper are beautiful!
But what is 'wax paper'?

Wax paper is a common waxed household paper, used for food. It's transparent, but it doesn't fold well.

Dear friends, thanks for your commets. Regarding the wax paper I have found some other important uses. If you glue the wax paper to foil, you have a perfect paper for studying the process of folding of new models you want to fold. When folding wax paper, the wax crack producing a thin, clear white line against the bright whitish surface, so, you could be extremely exact with the folding process. Unfolding will produce a beautifull cp with an amazingly clear lines. Also, you can fold only using wax paper ( I understand it is a little more dificult) and you coul see against a light the distribution of the many layers of papres and you could correct any deviation. If you unfold you will have algo a beautifull clean cp like a spider net.
I hope all this aspect will invite many people to try using the sandwich papel E-type.
Anna, please, I feel my english really horrible, but I want to communicate my ideas; so if you don't mind you could correct a little bit my messages.

Glassine

Post by HankSimon »

The models and paper give an elegant effect with a beautiful luster.

You might also experiement with a small change to the recipe. Rather than wax paper, glassine paper could be interesting. Glassine is kind of like wax paper without the waxy feel. Metaphorically like wax paper made using plastic, instead of wax. I think it may be used for gift wrapping or for accents instead of tissue paper. In the USA, you can find rolls or sheets in craft shops and at Michaels, in the Martha Stewart section.

The nice thing about glassine is that it has a crystalline, translucent appearance and it takes a fold fairly nicely.

Ok. Hank Simon, I will try to find the glassine paper. The good thing with the wax paper is that it is very available. Thank you for your comments
