I have tried about a dozen times to fold the grasshopper beginning on page 41 of Lang's Complete Book of Origami. It has never looked the way it should when I get to step 10. Sinking the right-hand corner of the small preliminary fold (in step 8 or 9, a complex sink with two creases that he does not explain) should result in both a small flap extending out to the right and a larger one hidden inside. I can accomplish either of these separately, but never both together.
Any advice from someone who has successfully folded this particular model would be most welcome.
It turns out that Lang used this same fold for his desert tortoise in Origami Zoo. There, he explains it much more clearly. I can do it now (and have successfully completed the grasshopper), but still not neatly.
Thanks for all your help.
