Stiffening paper

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I bought and used some hanji (mulberry paper) for the first time. I used a 2' long thickish sheet to fold Joseph Wu's Eastern Dragon. I'm quite pleased with the results, but the model is kind of floppy. In particular, the tail has a tendency to fall to one side. Does anyone know what I could do to stiffen the paper or make the model more stable?

You'd have to do this before folding the model though...

As for the finished model, you can probably stiffen it by applying methyl cellulose in the right places.

Thanks.

I've decided to leave the model as-is for now. I've widened the tail a bit, so that instead of falling over to one side, the tail just dropps down a bit until the tip is resting on the ground. It doesn't look quite as proud, but I'm still happy with it.

I may end up experimenting with some of the techniques from the other thread later on, though...

Today is a wonderful day.

I found a local art store that sells methylcellulose.

First batch has been made -- I am letting it sit overnight.

I may have to change my sig soon.
