Does anyone have any experience painting paper to achieve a color you want before you begin folding?
If so, what type of paint do you suggest?

i don't have any experience with it, but I know people use watercolor paper and color it with watercolor paint. It is wet-foldable.

Could you use watercolor to paint an already-folded model folded out of any type of paper?
