Hi happy origami people.
For some reason Id like to fold a rectangular solid that is not a cube.
I have no idea how to describe it other than it would look like a Scrabble tile - a flattened cube.
Has anyone seen instructions for this?
Has anyone seen instructions for any rectangular solid that is not a cube?
Im working on a basic cube and trying to alter it but naturally my first attempts are not too fruitful.
Thanks

Hi there,
I have answered my own question by designing it myself (first origami design woo hoo!)
http://www.wolispace.com/cgi-bin/a.pl?p ... /cube/tile
Basically its a standard cube modified in ways you would not expect.
I will be drawing up some instructions soon so everyone can enjoy making this shape.
Can anyone tell me what this shape might be called?

Great design! Really first one? Really great work! Call it just tile.

Thankyou.
Yes really my first.. but it is a variation on a standard cube so I did not think the whole thing up out of thin air.
Some new cleaner images with draft instructions on this page:
http://www.wolispace.com/cgi-bin/a.pl?p ... /cube/tile
Doing the instructions is proving to be harder work than the model.
It would be easier to do in a computer program as there is so much repetition and its hard to hand-draw the same shape with one extra mountain fold 15 times.
It requires the page to be divided into 7 - do I give instructions on that or just let people find that out for themselves?
I think I had better read some more instructions again to get some ideas.
Also Im hoping some mathematically-minded person can name it other than the a rectangular prism or a shape that looks like a scrabble tile.
Iether way Im very please I could imagine a shape and find a way of making it.. not an accident of folding at random. I wonder if the crane was an accident of random folding?

For all of you who have been hanging out for my first instructions for the cuboid - tile.. they are here:

I hope you can find the time to give it a go and let me know if you have any problems following them.
Thanks.

Cool ! I like it !
Might be possible to use it as a modular or connect a bunch of them with hinges, kind of like Brill's Wedge Flexicube. May take just a little creative modification to borrow from his idea.
