What would you call "own creation"?

Post by Mekks »

What would you call "own creation"? If someone makes a dog from a known horse? This is what I think. But how do you call it, if I create a dog from a well-known dog? For example by taking the Montroll dog and end up with a wetfolding dachshund. Is this my creation or just my interpretation? What kind of changes are necessary to design an own dog? In my opinion it's time to speak from an own creation, as soon as the creasepattern (the basic
structure) is modified. What do you think?

This is a pretty complex subject. I would say If you really manipulated someone else's base for a horse and made a dog, you could call it your own, but if you just tweaked it a little bit, I would call it artistic interpretation of someone else's model. Mostly what I see when someone uses someone else's base they usually say inspired by ______.

Whenever I do complex Origami I get this sinking feeling.

If you use someone's dog base to make a dog, then that is considered a variation on that model-using their base, but finishing it differently. As long as you credit the author and say it's a variation, you will be OK.

I disagree a bit that changes on the CP make a model your own. If I take an existing model and add a graft to lets say make some fingers/toes I wouldn't consider the resulting model my own even if I changed the CP.
What exactly makes a model an own model is hard to say and has to be decided from case to case I think.
