Need help with Lang's butterfly

Post by tae2536 »

I need help on Lang's Butterfly from "Origami Insects and Their Kins"
on step 28. How do you suppose to reverse-fold in and out so it look like step 29?

It is the same as "open sink", folds you've made in steps 26-27 are now used

What i did was that i kinda pulled the paper on the top of your model open a bit. Spreading out the little triangle/diamond thing that you made (with the closed sink push up part of steps 18 - 21) and then you can work out an open sink from there.

I hope this helps! if you need pics or something, just tell me, ill try to post some for you :D

The key thing about this model: Get really thin, strong paper! I haven't folded a version I'm happy with yet, but I found some Hanji recently so I'm going to give it a whirl. the thinner the paper, the better the legs will all come out. This is, in my humble opinion, the hardest model in the book, just because aof all the closed unsinks. Good luck, and keep persisting!

If you can't fold it, try a bazooka.

if this is what i think it is, there is no secret to it. the bottom half is a reverse fold, and the top half is essentially an open sink, but what makes it so difficult is that you cannot open the layers to do an open sink, and the way the layers are locked makes it difficult to spread the layers enough to get the sink clean. so you just have to work the paper in and out. it's not hard, just requires some patience--i've done this model numerous times from kami, for whatever reason this step tends not to tear the paper as much as you might think.

I fully agree with bethnor. That is definitely a hard step to do, but if you'd just be patient with the paper and work it into position slowly, youll get it right. Good luck, tae2536 and eric_son! :D

Hi! It's been a long while since I've been active on here. I deleted my Dropbox years ago, so some things, like my Dragonfly Varileg guide, are lost to time. I may still have other things, though! Email me if you have any questions.
