I know this has appeared in quite afew other topics but we need a system to many things have been lost through books going out of print. i personally will put in my will that all my diagrams and crease patterns shoud be made public on the web in the event of my death. I think all origami creators should sign some binding contract to do the same. The second a book goes out of print it should up on a website or if they die there works should be made public in a lasting memorial.

P.S angrydemon dont go on a mass killing spree just to get diagrams.

Hmmm...origamists would need bodyguards But seriously, that is an interesting point...deceased composers' music is still published under copyrights, so maybe a company could compile and publish out-of-print diagrams.

Books are hard to get republished, let alone to acquire the needed permissions to republish elsewhere (author, diagrammer, publisher, etc.). The best bet for peoples work to be recorded and republished, is through an origami organization. OUSA and BOS tend to republish diagrams on occasion, such as in their magazines, annuals, and special collections. Of course, that would be quite restrictive, there being very many artists and their many designs.

The nature of history itself is that some knowledge becomes forgotten, and thus creates a treasure hunt for it. Origami is yet "young" and has few historians or museums. Its important to preserve what we have, but not to force obligations on those creating the history. What I'd give for David Lister's library. Not for the diagrams, but the biographies, and seeing the "evolution" of different artists works.
