Russian Literature also does it for me.
To Anermaks list, I would add :
Mikhail Bulgakov (Михаил Афанасьевич Булгаков) - 'The Master & Margarita'
All of Dostoevsky (Фёдор Миха́йлович Достое́вский) - Especially 'Notes from Underground' & 'The Idiot'

Otherwise, William Faulkner, Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, Kenzaburō Ōe (大江 健三郎), Douglas Coupland, Charles M. Schulz, & the poems of Ella Wheeler Wilcox, Christina Rossetti & Andrew Marvell

Oh, and any Sesame Street, Asterix or Mr. Men Books

"The Stars My Destination" and "The Demolished Man" by Alfred Bester are two of the best books I've ever read. Alfred Bester is quite possibly the best science fiction author, ever.

Another favorite of mine is "Vellum" by Hal Duncan, which was absolutely mind-blowing...

and I also like "The Memory of Whiteness" by Kim Stanley Robinson. It's a little faster-paced than some of his later work :-P

I have a list of the top 100 books that I'd like to read eventually,
but so far, Don Quixote ranks right up there, as having generated the most thought .

You gotta love two stories in one, so I'd have to go with Fitzgeralds "The Great Gatsby"
