Decades ago, I boldly pursued oil painting, but eventually found out that my aspirations exceeded my inspirations.
Pre-origami, I did a fair amount of strip weaving, particularily fish.

Finally, since youth, in Minnesota, I have oftentimes found myself doing pysanky ( Ukrainian egg decorating)
around this time of the year. ( Google images for Pysanky ) .

I'm doing besides Origami also Alternative Photography. But I like to combine these. Here I made a Kusudama with Sonobe modules that I put rose images on it via a alternative procedure called Cyanotype (search on google if you don't know what that is). With this way I can also make custom paper designs.

There are some really great looking pieces and art forms here!



Something I just started myself.. It's part of a mini-series of melted Crayon canvas art called, "Virtues in the Rain". Each piece represents another character trait such as loneliness, patience, happiness, romance, etc.

Also, this picture is taken with my brand new Nikon D3100 DSLR camera which I have been saving up for over the past few months. I'm trying my hand at photography, so I'll probably add a few of my good pictures to flickr.

Another recently finished work.

Did you fold such a raw and thick piece of paper material with your bare hands only, or did you use tweezers?

I finished a painting a few days ago for my parents. I don't paint much at all, but it is a nice break from origami every once in a while.

Beautiful painting! I love acrylic. I'm thinking of learning it this summer..... But great job! I love the wood carving too!

Kinda depends on the wether. 2 afternoons for carving the face then another afternoon for making the the beard. After that I use brush to take away the small splinters and then I use a paintbrush to finish it. So 3 to 4 days, depending on the weather. Between 8 -12 hours. I just finished two more and started on a third. I'll post some pictures soon. I'm giving two away and I'm thinking about selling them. Not sure what would be a good price?

Good knives, gouges and v-tools are expensinsive. Needing two of each, and each costing between 15 and 20 euros. I would like to buy a sharpening stone but that is another 80. At least the shop where I buy the tools also has a great selection of paper and tissue!

That is a great painting. Reminds me of the Bob Ross tv show. I used too draw back in the day. Mostly nudes though..

Thanks, Benlewis. I meant to comment on yours, too. I've seen the melted crayon art before and my wife absolutely loves it, so I might try it sometime. Do you have any tips?

roodborst, there are definitely some Bob Ross elements in there. I used to watch that show all the time. It was a challenge for me to use acrylic rather than oil, though. I don't have the skill and it takes me much longer to finish anything . Looking forward to seeing your other carvings.

I really really love it Roodborst! I'd probably buy one if I had the money to..... But wonderful job and I think you should totally sell them! or give them as really special presents.

Thank you Leafpiece! It's really really fun. I'm also getting into the field of photography too so I"ve spent about 450 now for all the equipment... Quite a sum for only being 15. I'm also into spray painting (which I'll be able to do now that it's spring and warmer weather)

I've been a busy boy. Carved a bunch in the last couple of weeks, just took the photos a few days ago.

I'm getting better at carving eyes. I liked the open mouth on number 2 aswell.

I got into clay sculpture and drawing recently as a rest from origami design.

Roodborst, those wood sculptures are fantastic! That's quite a talent you've got there! I've been drawing some more cartoons. I'll post them in a day or so.
