Thanks daydreamer! I'll try the box pleeating right away. (I have paper in my hand as i type this) so for the pot leaf, do i just use box pleat to make the 7 leaves, and the stem right?

Daydreamer, ive been trying to foldthat leaf buti have a few questions:
1, what size paper did you use?
2, how do i make those circles that the CP shows?
3, is the grid a 40 x 40?

ad 1) I used 15cm x 15cm Kami, but I would recommend the use of some foil paper for that model.

ad 2) You don't need to fold the circles. They are there to show which parts of the square will become flaps (in this case leaves). If you are interested in the theory behind that I would recommend the following article by Jason Ku: http://www.mit.edu/~jasonku/2004/circleriver.html
Or you buy the book Origami Design Secrets by Robert J. Lang for a really extensive summary about Circle Packing and other design methods.

Daydreamer, i folded from the CP to make that pot leaf, but i ended up with some kind of 3-D pyramid thing. could you explain how to finish the model?

Hmmm.... it would be helpful if you could post a picture of what you have right now, because I don't recall getting a 3-D pyramid during the folding process....

i use it for um.. mediecal reasons. yes medical reasons...jk

rambler.. i think the 3-d pyrimid thing... i got something similar too, but, you just gotta keep on squishing it all down, being sure to follow the crease pattern...and i think the center "circle" or point ends up being the stem. also, i think that even though the creases are only on one side, you have to do the same creases on the other side too. now, when you get it down to a basic shape...the main 5 leaves, and the stem, you have to kinda fiddle with those four back leafs. also i had to reverse some of the valley and mountain folds, cause i couldnt see a possible way for some to exist, but you have to collapse the whole thing, and then when its collapsed enough (you'll just kinda know) you have to make some adjustments, and at that point you can kinda disregard the cp, and kinda shape it into the plant thing. ididnt get it perfect or anything, but i got it to a point where it had all the parts in the right places etc. you just have to keep squishing it :) but not crumpling it!
