Here is a monthly challenge thread for creating origami pokemon. Every month there will be a new pokemon to create. This isn't particularly competitive but a winner (as such as it isn't particularly competitive) may be asked to create a crease pattern to share if they want to. One entry per month ect. Ect.ect. Feburary 2012 will be volcarona (I think that's it anyway) special request from dragon. Please enter.

After reading this, I just had to fold one. Behold, the mighty Volcarona:
The base is actually really simple, but I'm still quite pleased with how it turned out.

Don't worry! February is short but you've got aages yet! Love the picture above, although i don't really belive you when you said it was basic; you don't get results like that that easily!!

I never said it was basic, just that the layout and design process were simple, although after seeing some of Satoshi Kamiya or Brian Chan's designs, my definition of 'simple' might be a bit skewed. I should post the crease pattern.

Okay, here's the crease pattern:
It may look complicated, but the main structure of the base is just a 4X4 box pleat. I started from a waterbomb base when I was actually folding it. Then you sink in thirds to thin the flaps, and reverse fold the wings so the opposite color shows. The center, where the legs come from, is an ideal split.

It does look quite easy! Are there any more entries? You've got ages yet though.

Interesting! As I guessed, I've been working on a sort of similar base. I might or might not end up with a presentable version.

The crease pattern is very symmetrical- it's very clever! You're alowed to use the same base as each other, as long as they're obviously different in the finished result. I'm looking forward to seeing yours, topsu!
