Mark Stefan's Bowl

Post by Brimstone »

This diagrams are from the christmas origami book 2012. In step 13 it says to "fold the borders (I think the right word here would be edges) so it forms a square". I'm not sure I understand what you are supposed to do at this step. If I do what I think you should do at step 13, I get to a step that might or might not be what is portrayed at step 14, but what I'm sure of, is that if I do what the diagrams instruct you to do (pull the flaps), nothing pops out, the model just unfolds.

So does anyone understand what should be done here?

Thanks.

Just to make sure, you turn the model over in step 12. In step 13, you fold the edges along existing creases up so that they stand in an right angle to the middle square forming kind of a box shape. The corner flaps of the sunken triangles can either go to the outside (as diagrammed) or inside (looks better in my opinion), it doesn't matter. In step 14 you slightly pull on the flaps to get triangular side parts that look a bit like house roofs, they are stable in themselves. Hope that helps.
As a variation you can mountain fold the triangular corner flaps inward.

That's it? I was hoping for some kind of lock to keep the model togehter. This doesn't look like a finished model to me (at least not a good one).

After having folded it, I have to agree with you. If you fold in the corners in it somehow looks like an ashtray to me. Maybe it looks better if you fill the bowl with something, dunno.
