Hi there. I am having a little trouble getting past a certain step with Montroll's moose. The folding pattern is from his North American Animals in Origami (1995) and I am stuck on step number 58. I have just folded into a petal fold and it has asked me to open the model to "pull out the white paper"...I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the model to appear as is does in step #59 - can anyone help me out with this? I'm going bonkers here.
I don't have that book but I know exactly what you're talking about. Okay, First, Unfold the WHOLE white corner and refold along the creases you've previously made. The upper side will have all the required mountain and valley folds but the lower side needs to be reversed. So just use the upper side as a reference and make the creases. The result will be like a bird base. Hope it helped! And they should post a clear sequence of that fold. It's very hard to understand those steps when you're new at reading diagrams.
We're all stories in the end.

Just because someone's having trouble with a step of a diagram, doesn't mean that you should automatically assume that they are new to origami(and/or diagrams). It's not fair. I've had many stupid things on diagrams that have stumped me for the longest time. Sometimes stupid little things can cause a load of trouble for some people, but that doesn't mean that they're new to origami.
I would rather fail trying than fail without trying....
AHA! figured it out. I kind of matched it to another steps' image . No complaints on this side with regards to being a beginner...I am not...but with cases like this when things are just not working out you can talk to me like a super beginner...describing folds in writing almost calls for this. Thanks again for your help.
