Help with Eileen's Doc Oc

Post by bozozaclown »

I need help with Eileen's Doctor Octopus:
http://spinflipper.com/origami/diagrams/doc-ock.pdf

My first question is :can I skip part 15 and 16 of the diagram?
and: how do you do step 20?

I really like this model and I would appreciate the help.

It is possible to skip part 15 and 16 if you hate doing sink-folds, but I wouldn't recommend it if you want your doctor octopus to have fingers :)

About step 20. I haven't folded the model so I'm not certain but I suppose you have to take a layer from the back of the tentacle and wrap it around. Usually this kind of thing requires forcing the paper a bit.

Step 20 requires turning the paper inside out. It's also optional, since it's just a colour change for the tentacles.

I was wondering if anyone has tried folding the fingers of this model in the same fashion as Satoshi Kamiya's Wizard and Ancient dragon? It seems like it could work..... I just don't want to fold this model again right now :)

Anyone tried this?

step 20

I also have problems with step 20. For once, it is not clear from the diagram if the reversal is to be done from left to right or from right to left (the model is not symmetric in this step). Worse, whichever way I do it, the point where the tentacle connects does not look like in the diagram...

Please help, if I ruin the model, that's 24 open sinks gone to waste...

I just wrap around the first layer, and then basically just straighten it out. If you want, you can crush the rest that is not flat on the inside :D . It doesn't matter because that is the last step for the tentacles that you need to fold besides the claws. And its not like someone will take apart your tentacles! :)
