I am having trouble collapsing this CP into a base, the link is

http://scripts.mit.edu/~jasonku/index.p ... inobeetle2

This is the third crease pattern I have tried to fold, I am very very new to folding them. I am fairly sure i collapsed the bottom half correctly, but I am having trouble with the top half.

Also, a general question about crease patterns, how do you fold a CP without printing out a copy of the lines? I attempted to figure out the folds without printing this one out, but a lot of those folds at the top (I think they are swivel folds) are stumping me, so I ended up printing it out and attempting it as such. All help is appreciated!!

Just to make sure, you fold the left pattern, correct?
Most of the creases here are angle bisectors. When you want to fold the Crease Pattern without printing it begin with the creases that are obvious like the horizontal and vertical middle line as well as the diagonals. Afterwards look out for angle bisectors and work your way from the edges/corners inwards. It should be possible to find all the Creases this way.

OK, after looking for a while longer, I was able to finish making the CP on a blank piece of paper, but am still having trouble with collasping the top part.

The circled part is where I am having trouble. Also, I am using the CP on the left, it looked like the one on the right had important points outlined or something of a similar nature.

That part there is missing some hinge creases, so just with the folds in the CP you can't get a flat base (?).
Seems to me that the part you are having trouble with produces two center flaps that have to be folded somewhere (up or down) to press the model flat.
I'll upload some pictures once I have charged the battery of my camera, though I'm not quite sure if I'm correct.

EDIT:

I managed to make it very similar to the original model using this method and some shaping. The layers on the abdomen should be in a different order to make the gap in the center, but since I did it later I don't know if you could do it while collapsing.

Thanks a ton for the pictures Topsu, they were very helpful and I was able to finish the base from them.
