Om Namah Sivaya!
I am new to origami and trying to use the internet as a free source before I go out and spend lots of money on books. I don't know if I am wording it incorrectly, but I would like to make perfectly even fan folds. I know an accordion fold is *not* the proper term for what I want as I found a video on that. I guess you could say I want a series of perfectly matched mountain and valley folds? Like this: ////////// if you are looking at the paper's edge.
Thank you so much for taking time to help me.

First, fold the paper in half. Then fold each edge to the center line. Then fold each edge to the creases you have already made, etc., etc. The trick is to not fold through many layers at once and to fold as evenly as possible (make sure to make very sharp, crisp creases using the back of your thumbnail). Other than that, most of it boils down to practice and patience.
