Found in Tanteidan Convention 12. I could use some help on steps 82 -85. I really can't tell what the diagrams are depicting here. Could someone explain what's going on in these steps for me?

it's hard to describe. essentially you are pulling the corner you see in step 83 out. as you pull the corner out, it will change a valley fold into a mountain.

It got way too thick to shape. Made from 35cm tant paper. It's spent a few days being squashed in a book under a heavy dresser to try to make the thickness more manageable.

one thing you can do is moisten it before pressing down/pinching. that will help it stay flat/keep its shape. i have been generally pleased with the results of dry folding with tant and wet finishing.

I will definitely try that if I fold another thick model with tant.

You folded the model quite well. It looks very nice!

Does anyone remember what the starting paper size / finished model size ratio is for this? I'm thinking of making it from 14 inch paper that is about the thickness of your average tissue-foil (as well as Terry tissue foil)

14" should be fine, frumious. the ratio is roughly the same as the kabuto-mushi.

So...in step 69 there doesn't seem to be a concrete reference point. The long valley fold down the horn seems to not be a bisector, either. Is this just a judgment fold, or what?

yeah, it's not clear. basically you want to try and arrange the folds so that the layers underneath the white flaps you see in 72 are flush (i.e., you basically want those two white flaps you see in 72 form a square split along the diagonal, and if you bisect 69 they will not fall thus).

i may be wrong, though.

Am I just sliding out the point I've labeled 1? or am I popping out the section I've labeled 2? I'm fairly certain it's kind of an unsinking/sliding of point 1. Can someone confirm this?
