Hi, I searched for dahlia and could not find a previous topic on this one, I hoped I searched well...
I'm new to origami and I bought Hiromi Hayashi's book Origami Flowers. Unfortunately, I got stuck with the first flower I tried, the dahlia. I'm going ok till step 11, but then I got stuck. I tried different foldings from step 10-11, but I just can't get it right

. Does anyone know how it should be done?
the final flower looks like this:
Dahlia

Welcome to the forum!
Good choice on book, you can make some fantastic bouquets from it! Step ten is pretty tricky, but hopefully this will help.
The first thing to make sure is that your creases for the middle are
sharp. Go ahead and stand it up so that the square is by itself in the middle.
Start pinching one of the corners so that you collapse half of the square.
Now start pinching from the other side to finish collapsing the middle square.
Now you can finish the model (and do this step three more times!) This is a great stepping stone towards more complex models; the collapse in step 10 is a precursor for the dreaded open sink. Let me know if I need to explain something better, or explain collapsing the middle differently, this is just the easiest way that works for me.
Have fun!

Thank you so much! It looks really clear. I can already see that the center folds are not good in my trial versions. Right now we're having breakfast, but I'll try it when were done.

I'm fiddling right now, but it's not working yet... It's just like my center square is located differently than yours :S. I mean that my 'long corners are at the corners of the square. But I'll try some more!

Awesome! Good job!
If you need any more help, don't be afraid to ask. Next time though, please mind your netiquette and edit your posts instead of triple posting, it makes you look cooler when you don't clutter up the page with one line updates.

Yes, thanks I know... I already edited my posts to add more, but because you were online too, I was afraid you would comment on a post that I was editing at the same time. If you know what I mean

.
After the struggle with the dahlia, I'm now trying the hyacinth. Of course I got stuck again. So I wanted to ask: are the pictures in this topic yours? Can they be found somewhere here on the forum? I feel really silly if I have to ask about every single flower in the book...

The pictures are mine, I folded it and took the photos. If you need to ask for every flower, have no fear! We're a friendly bunch here and will help you out. Learning is a huge key with origami, and it's way easier to ask than to beat your head against a brick wall trying to figure something out.
