CP

For years I've been folding origami by the usual way, step-by-step instruction or diagrams. I've only just found out about Crease Pattern (CP) and am feeling very lost. I've found some sites with instructions on CP but they don't really explain much. I've attempted some CP diagrams but I always seem to get lost. 
Would any one be able to explain the process of CP?
