Malachi, why do you still bother to come to this forum, when you take every opportunity you see to complain about the ways the forum is handled. Take a look at other forums on the internet and you will see that a lot of them are far stricter than this forum, and the way you are and have been acting sometimes would have gotten you banned already.

If you don't like it, don't come, it's as simple as that. No one forces you to come here... unless you are addicted of course... :-P
So long and keep folding ^_^

Thats an interesting collection of books, I'm especially interested in the letter and model. I think I know what I'm getting for Christmas.

I wouldn't really consider this post spam, if it were any other auction I would. 3 books by Yoshizawa is a rare find on e-bay, especially with something like these letters. It brings out the librarian in me to want to collect and archive these. (Yeah, I'm back in the active origami world again, hopefully for good this time lol.)

And you will archive those books or you will fold with them? If you will archive them send it at first to Czech republic, we will fold all models and then we will send them back to you for archiving.

Sorry, I missed one of those, probably because it was posted just after Thanksgiving weekend, which is always a busy time for me.

The other passed some of the standards that I mentioned earlier in this thread, having been posted by an existing, contributing member of the community.

However, both of those posts have a feature that this one lacks, a descriptive subject line. Perhaps this would be a better approach. This thread, at least in my opinion, fails to meet rule 6 of the forum posting guidelines. The subject line does not provide enough information. When I first clicked on it, I expected to see, perhaps, reviews of three good origami books. A better subject would have included the fact that this was about an auction and the name of the author of the books, if not the titles (which were notably missing from the actual post as well).

That is a complicated question. The short answer is that I love origami and I believe that a strong online community is important. My discontentment comes from the fact that I believe, based on experience, that things could be better managed.

For what it is worth (to be pedantic), I don't take every opportunity I see to complain. I do make other, more substantive, posts. I have also cut back on my posting and reading in recent months, as I have realized that this isn't really the community for me, due to well documented issues. I skip all threads that don't have a description that is specific and interesting to me. Since many people don't follow rule 6, I get to skip a lot of threads.

For that matter, I didn't intend to get into this deep of a discussion. I simply wanted to point out that I considered this post to be spam. Sure, it's origami related spam, but it is still spam. This generated some discussion about the nature of spam and its acceptability and I just happened to find myself on the "wrong" side of the majority of the posters in the thread.

It is a false dilemma to say that other forums are more poorly managed. Just because there are worse situations does not justify something.

If you don't like my posts, don't read them. It's as simple as that.

Spam, spam, spam, spam, green eggs and spam.

This is a single post by a user whose sole purpose of visiting this forum is to flog some books that he/she clearly doesn't know the value of. If this appeared on any of the forums I moderate, it would have vanished in a cyper-puff.

I'm selling some video games and comic books on ebay. Can I advertise on this site? After all, I'm a published folder...
I once set up an origami PLC. But the business folded.

What do you mean about very often used subject 'need help' (without any specification of course)?

'SPAM' is undesirable advertisment. I have (and of course not only me) many such advertisments in my mobile from my provider, in standard mail, in e-mail box from companies, where I am registered, etc. I clicked on some 'yes, I agree', but have I any choise? And I do not want such offers, so for me it is spam. It is useless.
But any origami advertisment, f.e. on eBay, is useful, because I (and I am sure, that many other people too) have not enough time to checking all webs regularly. And if I have small amount of luck I can acquire interesting things -- so I like such advertisment.
That man not only here post one/first post about those books, also on eBay it is his first selling. He probably get somewhere origami books and do not know what with them. So he offered them on internet to people, who can be interested in. It is a good act.
Note: Everything has such value, what other people are ready to pay for it. Now it is 76 USD for those three books. Me and Czech origami society would like to by those books but current price and shipping fee (15 USD) is too much for us.
