Cranes with dual coloured paper

Post by acornah »

Hello, I just bought some dual-sided origami paper from ebay, meant for making cranes. However, I can't figure out how to make the cranes in the picture that have both colours of the paper showing on them. The regular crane only shows one side of the paper. Does anyone know how to make the crane in this picture?

You start by blintzing the paper, folding the corners in alternate directions. Here is one way to do this:

(Sorry, my shameless way of getting to play with Visio. I highly recommend it for diagramming.)

You can also fold adjacent corners in the same direction, and the other corners in the opposite way. Hope this helps.

Perhaps there is a more efficient way involving wrapping the paper around? I know this would lock in the middle flap, but maybe it is possible to do a reverse/swivel fold or something once the head and tail are folded up to unlock it.

Gerwin and I played with this idea some time ago. The result were these diagrams.

Have fun!
