Re: Christmas Book 2011?
Hi all,
I'm sorry I've been really busy recently. I fear it is a bit late now to announce a Christmas book. Drawing diagrams needs time. I guess if everyone wants the Christmas book to happen I could organise it with a later deadline and a later date to send it out. Maybe the 23rd as deadline and the 27th to send it out to have enough time to edit and convert the files to the needed format. Or Ondrej, if you want to do it I can offer you help.

That would be awesome!origami_8 wrote:Maybe the 23rd as deadline and the 27th to send it out
You could also make it a new year book (either western or Chinese)...

Re: Christmas Book 2011?
I'm in, just tell me what address (Ondrej's or Anna's) and I'll send my submission I've been saving for over 6 months.

Re: Christmas Book 2011?
I have diagrams for my 8 pointed Nativity Star (like the one you put on top of a christmas tree), but they are hand drawn on graph paper. I originally made them for personal reference. Very neat, but still, hand drawn. Would this be able to use as a submission?
Re: Christmas Book 2011?
I don't know whether Ondrej already started?
For me a scan of handdrawn diagrams is fine. I can handle most file formats but prefer A4 portrait style pdfs.

Re: Christmas Book 2011?
I am sorry for delay in replays.
I have no diagram so far (from others), so you can send it all to Anna and it could be New Year book. I can participate on the converting and other pre-processing, it it is needed. No problem.

I've only ever designed once, it was a doodle, but how do you send designs in?
Re: Christmas Book 2011?
Okay, so lets make it official.
I'm glad for everyone to spread the word to other people be it on Forums, Mailing lists or whatever else:
Dear all,
For the sixth time there will be an Origami Christmas book this year.
This will be a book from creators to creators containing previously unpublished instructions only.
That's how it works:
Everyone who wants to participate sends me (at least) one previously unpublished folding instruction. Afterwards I assemble them all into a pdf-file with a table of contents and send it back to all participants. In the end everyone of them gets a nice compilation of diagrams that aren't available elsewhere.
Everyone who wants to take part can send his/her instructions to
Origamibook AT gmail DOT com
(Replace "AT" with "@" and "DOT" with ".")
The last date to send your instructions is December 23.
Due to the late start the deadline and sending date differ a bit from the last years.
I'll send the book out on December 27.
Hopefully many people will contribute to this project so that we´ll get a nice book together
Yours Anna

Some questions (and their answers) that have been asked before:
* Do I need to send computer drawn diagrams?
No, hand drawn diagrams or other clear instructions (photo or text) count as well.
* Can I send more than one diagram?
Yes of course, as many as you want.
* Can I have a copy of the book without sending something in?
No, this project is thought as an exchange of folding instructions and not to earn money with it. If you don´t have an own model to diagram maybe you can draw diagrams for someone else´s model, so that you two can participate as one person. For help in finding someone see here:
viewtopic.php?t=1810
* Have the models to be Christmas related?
No they don´t. Christmas is just the date you will receive the book. (This year December 27!)
* Can I send Crease Patterns and Text Instructions as well?
Yes, but make sure to also send a picture of the finished model.
Diagrams are preferred.
* Is it possible to obtain the books of the previous years?
Yes, by sending more than one unpublished diagram, you can "buy" previous editions (one book per additional diagram).
If you send more than one diagram and want to obtain back issues please tell which one(s) you want.
* How many participants contributed in previous years?
2010:
77 participants sent more than 126 models.
The book was 339 pages long and 47 MB in size.
2009:
59 participants sent in a total of 90 models (12 Crease Patterns, 3 photo Instructions, 1 alternative model).
The book was 246 pages long and 25,2MB in size.
2008:
56 authors sent in a total of 90 models (17 Crease Patterns, 6 photo instructions, 5 text instructions).
The book was 287 pages long and 28,4 MB in size.
2007:
48 participants sent in a total of 70 instructions (16 Crease Patterns, 4 photo instructions).
The book was 13 MB in size and 176 pages long.
2006:
32 Authors have sent in a total of 49 Models (5 Crease Patterns).
The book was 147 pages long and 24 MB in size.

Inkscape has an excellent tutorial in the Help menu. Help -> Tutorialsdragon wrote:download from http://inkscape.org/
Now that I have it, I don't know how to draw a line
Start with the Basic tutorial and work your way down.
