Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
There's a new instructional video online. This time round I simply fell in love with a modular fir tree design by Francesco Guarnieri.
Video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxCLO1LRjIE
Video on Happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... i-fir_tree
Crease Pattern: http://www.flickr.com/photos/f_guarnieri/6274030638/
Image: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-guarnieri-fir_tree
Thanks again to Francesco for giving me permission to demonstrate his model - and his confidence in me to come up with a folding sequence for his crease pattern. By the way, you can explore more of Francesco's work on his Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/f_guarnieri/ - there's even more awesomeness to discover there.
I've also published the next article in my video creation guide. I talk about how to create the final video by editing the recorded, raw material. Or, in other words: "How the Magic Paper Works".

Great video creation guide Sara. I always have loved the way you do such great videos and draw the lines in.
You work with Robert Lang so much, you should do another arthropod, say the grasshopper from Origami Insects and their Kin since it isn't as complex as some of his other works, yet looks great when completed.
Or maybe his Pegasus from Design Secrets II.
Keep up the great work.

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
Hi everyone!
1. Instructional Video
Just in time for Valentine's Day, I've done a new instructional video. This time round it's a model all around love: "Happiness in Love" designed by Andrey Lukyanov.
Picture: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-luk ... ss_in_love
YouTube video page: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGSj_C6vsw4
Happyfolding video page: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... ss_in_love
Many thanks to Andrey for creating this wonderful model and giving me permission to demonstrate it.
Also, do check out his site www.loveorigami.info (use Google Translate to get the page in English: http://translate.google.com/translate?s ... igami.info ) and his YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/user/loveorigami
Especially if you're still searching for love-themed models, you'll find plenty of inspiration!
2. Paper Review
It's also my pleasure to announce the next paper review that Ilan Garibi and Gadi Vishne wrote. This time round they examined Kraft paper, in particular the super-thin Kraft that's sold by Nicolas Terry: http://www.origami-shop.com/en/origami- ... 3_227.html
Read it on happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/paper-review_kraft
or on Origami USA: http://origamiusa.org/thefold008_paper_ ... raft_paper
In case you missed it, the paper review before that was on Crumpled Paper (VOG paper): http://www.happyfolding.com/paper-review_crumpled / http://origamiusa.org/thefold007_paper_ ... pled_paper
An overview of the paper reviews is also available at http://www.happyfolding.com/paper-reviews_introduction
3. Origami Design Secrets 2nd Edition
Also a short shout-out for a quick comparison I wrote on ODS 1st Edition vs 2nd Edition: http://www.happyfolding.com/blog-origam ... nd_edition - this may be of interest to those that are thinking about buying ODS - either because they only have the 1st edition, or none at all yet.
Best wishes and happy folding,

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
Hi everyone!
1. Instructional Video
Given that I'm about to give birth (presumably within the next two weeks) I really did feel like I should make a video for the occasion. And which model is better suited that an origami baby? So my most recent instructional video features a baby designed by Robert J. Lang
Picture: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-lang-baby
YouTube video page: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtOAY9akZkE
Happyfolding video page: http://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-lang-baby
Many thanks to Robert for creating this wonderful model and giving me permission to demonstrate it. Why not fold a baby with me while I'm waiting for our little'un to arrive?
2. Google Doodle
As many of you surely have already noticed (there's been a couple of messages on the list, too), Google featured an origami doodle today. It honors the 101st anniversary of Akira Yoshizawa and features his superb butterfly design, as well as an origami version of the Google letters designed by Robert J. Lang.
Some of you may be experiencing increased traffic to your origami pages due to this feature.
Google also posted a short article by Robert Lang with some background on the Google doodle: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/ ... -fold.html
In particular, it includes crease patterns for the letters designed by Robert J. Lang.
Of course, I had to give it a go!
[You may or may not know that I am a software engineer at Google. Although I don't know whether it had an influence, I do have to admit that I suggested an origami doodle for the 100th anniversary of Akira Yoshizawa. Perhaps they picked it up a year later, or someone was more persistent. ]
Here's my first fold: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-lang-google_doodle
And my second fold: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-lan ... oodle_tant
And a time lapse of me folding the second rendition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym6XUxGTnU8
Finally, Robert also posted some more background information on his website: http://langorigami.com/blog/?p=89
Hope you have fun with it!
Happy folding,

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
If you're still searching for some origami-themed Easter decorations,
this might be especially interesting.
I'm pleased to announce my most recent origami video. This time it
features a rabbit model I absolutely adore - and am sure you will
immediately fall in love with if you don't know it yet. It's designed
by Jun Maekawa, who graciously gave me permission to present this
model to you.

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
As of today a new instructional video is available. This time round I'm demonstrating how to fold star "Helena" designed by Carmen Sprung. And it's not just a star! You can also use it to wrap quite flat,
circular objects - such as a CD or DVD.
Thank you so much to Carmen Sprung, who gave me permission to produce this video and make it available to you. You will also want to check out her excellent book "Origami: 21 Sterne": http://www.happyfolding.com/book-sprung ... i_21_stars
It may well be the most beautiful origami book I have. And while the instructions are in German, the diagrams are so clear that you don't need to know the language. Indeed, the book was also proofread (or rather: test-folded) by someone that doesn't know German.

Your video's are great Sara!
Maybe in the future you could make a video of John Szinger's "elephant". It is availible for free on his website and it is such a nice model!

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
Today I uploaded a video on how to fold a fantastic 6-pointed crown designed by Christiane Bettens (aka Mélisande).
It's the first video I recorded with my new camera, so it's in HD - and the last video I recorded and edited before Felix was born. I do hope I'll find time to record a new video for June, so far Felix has been keeping me quite busy (and very happy).
Thanks to Christiane Bettens for a fantastic model and that she gave me permission to make a video on how to fold it available to you.

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
You teach very well Sara. Would Satoshi Kamiya's Veiltail Angelfish be too complex to make a tutorial on. I love that model but the diagrams are out of print .

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
Sorry, Satoshi Kamiya doesn't want me to do tutorials on his models and I respect that wish. So I fear there won't be any instructional videos from me on his work - irrespective of complexity.
Sorry for the bad news,
