Collapsible Open/Close Business Card-Box/Cube [Cash Reward!]
Hi all,
How is everyone? Hope alls enjoying the olympics - I'm trying desperately and enthusiastically to get better at Origami, my few paper cuts show progress is still to be made haha.
I'm trying to re-do my business card DIY style, so it can open up into a little box/cube, and go back to a flat design, like the following:
Does anyone know the basic principles / templates for this? Is it a take on Pandora's box?
Any help much appreciate, and I'd be happy to donate paypal rewards for those who help, including this great forum as well.
Best,
Seanami

I don't have any experience with action models, but it seems like you'd need to find some way to internally connect one of the triangles (the pop out from the inside to form the top and bottom of the box) to an adjacent corner on the opposite side of the box. It's kinda hard to explain.
Like I said, I don't know anything about designing action models. Otherwise I'd try to design it.

It could be made similarly to a Fujimoto cube. Check this page for the instructions to make the cube and extrapolate them: http://erikdemaine.org/thok/delian.html
Glueing the ends will be necessary I guess.

Hi all,
Thanks so much for your feedback to date. I had a feeling it wasn't officially origami, and more paper/card craftyness.
It seems the transformation into the box is "locked" into place by the cleverly positioned tabs/knobs, you can see this more here:
Would you all agree its a kind of tabby thingy?
Any other tips on how to craft a similar item would be much appreciated.
Cheers all!

If you just want a cut and glue template, here you go:
The grey parts need to be glued. All solid lines are mountain folds, the dashed lines are valley folds if you want the lines to be visible on the outside. Otherwise the solid lines are valley and the dashed ones are mountain.

I'm glad I could help you. Thank you for the offer to send me money, but it really isn't necessary. If you still like to give a reward, how about donating for keeping the Forum up and running? Saj sure is thankful for every donation he gets: http://snkhan.co.uk/donate.php
