Centipede by FlareglooM, on Flickr

Folded and designed by me.
Grid: 64x64.
Technique: Boxpleating
Precreasing: 4 hours.
Collapsing: 4 hours.
Shaping: 4 hours.
Dimensions initial square: 70x70 cm.
Dimensions final model: Length: 35 cm - Width: 10 cm - Height: 2 cm

My biggest problem thus far has been collapsing middle flaps (in particular boxpleated flaps), so to force me to understand it better I designed this centipede. It has 17 pairs of legs of which 10 pairs are middle flaps and 7 are edge flaps. Each segment has one pair of legs.

I think I understand boxpleating to a good level now, so next is 22.5º technique. I explored it a bit, but I cannot really apply it, is there a step by step procedure for it? If someone can give me a push in the right direction it is much appreciated :).

Awesome centipede! I tried to do a millipede a while ago using what I guess is the same technique, but I haven't had any success yet.

The best advice I can give you on 22.5deg is to play around with half-bird- and frog bases until you get an idea of the trees given by various flap arrangements. I'm still trying to learn it myself, actually.

Okay so basically explore tiling a bit with half bird- and frog bases. I think that will give me a good start, thanks!

No problem!
My most complex design to date is 22.5deg, so it's helped me somewhat.

Yes, defining a hexagon with a sunk center is a starting fold for six petal flowers used by many other folders such as Sakoda "Origami Flowers", 1992 and Hayashi "Origami lowers", 2003. My Version uses 4 hexagons defined in the edge and center of each side. The process is a little diferent than the $ Bill fold but the results are nearly the same. Some modifications are needed to pull paper to create the hex shapes.

Ryujin 64-B
by Daniel Brown
it's basically a Ryujin 2.1 on a 64x64 grid insead of an 80x80 one. A working CP was made by Karol Kafarski and modified by me. Best thing is it only takes 8 hours!

New design. Based on Eric Gjerde's true p6 tiling but with a whole load of rearranging on the layers. Not the most interesting when it's not backlit. Unfortunately it's got a LOT of layers in some places so it took quite a bit of ironing to get it as flat as this! It a bit tedious to fold because the majority or what you're doing is just re-arranging layers but it's not the end of the world. My favourite thing about this is if you look at the hexagons on the back and backlight it and it reveals all this triangles out of no where!

I have been nutting out a design inspired directly by Eric Joisel's Gnome Orchestra accordion that uses a particularly interesting corrugation technique to form the bellows. I have explored internal and externalisation of gusset seams necessary to have the ends larger than diameter to the end pieces, I like this arrangement the best. As a side-effect you end up with enough paper to make lovely handles.

My model is based on a 32x20 grid, and my mockup (from a hand-drawn cp) looks like this:
Image

I think I have sorted out the geometry and am ready to fold my presentation fold (without pen marks
The design has longitudinal seam and I am working on a glue-less way of closing this seam - some nifty shapes have resolved so far
I fold therefore I am.
