Re: monthly folding challenge: december 2012
I wasn't using the ban as a main talking point intentionally, just more pointing it out. Personally I'm just uncomfortable with the holiday topic in general, but if we're going to have one we might as well open it to every winter holiday than just one in particular.
Sorry for starting anything, I'm more coming from the thinking that there are way more than enough origami Santa Clauses out there then, say, bells, druidic symbols, or the other things humanity has surrounded wintertime festivities with.

Re: monthly folding challenge: december 2012
my intention was just to start a challenge with a topic that is everything but new - but with a lot of potential, too. i don't understand why this topic has to be the first one to discuss or to change. there is some grotesque development in here that makes me doubt if this forum is a place where i'd like to stay much longer. i've asked juston for taking the responsibility of this month's challenge. i hope and think, he'll get more acceptance among the new spear tip of origami evolution ...
if you're going to visit my little flickr_gallery, please leave a comment - a critical one is welcome, too, if necessary: http://www.flickr.com/photos/57625237@N02/

akugami i really think this has massive potential and i think you have done really well picking this its just a shame it had to coincide with long quachs behaviour but i would keep it as it is
Re: monthly folding challenge: december 2012
Okay, I already have a finished folded prototype. Since only one submission is allowed for this topic (not my favourite rule) I will probably try out some other things too before posting. Lets see if I can come up with something better. I'm in a very creative phase right now, that needs to be exploited
@Bass: If you don't like the challenge topic, you needn't participate. Or, you participate, win and get the chance to choose a challenge subject yourself!

All righty, challenge creator's rules and I'll abide by them and judge accordingly. Let's start seeing some more submissions, good luck everyone.

My latest design, an angel! I used a 95 cm square of tissue foil. The whole thing is one piece of paper including the cross. Boxpleated on a grid of 64.
This is probably the hardest thing I have ever folded, took me around 7 hours. Unless there is a really good reason, I will never fold it again. I hope you like it

"Christmas in July"
Folded from 24cm Kami
Here's my entry, a silly idea inspired by those who celebrate Christmas in the southern hemispheres. This snowman is half(volumetrically) of a 3D snowman with color change arms and nose. Poor guy just got stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Gerardo:
Yeah, It has an open bottom, so I guess you can use it as a lid
yellerdude:
That's a cool design and idea! I really like how the light reflection resembles the sun
P.S. I still forget sometimes that the winter/summer is opposite between the two hemispheres(and also amazed at it (O.O)... woah ) lol

Not too fond of the restriction of ONE model, but I'm not likely to fold anything else on the topic in the coming weeks, so here it goes :

mes p'tits plis (now also in English)
