My name is spelled correctly. I don't really care if my username is spelled correctly or not but it was nice of you to ask :)

One question before picking the topic:
For "topic 1: Insects", do you mean the class insect(bugs having 6 legs) or do you mean the entire phylum arthropods(including insects(6 legs), arachnid(8 legs), and crustaceans(shrimp, crabs, etc.)) or just "bugs" (basically arthropods on land) or something else

Sorry for being so technical, but some people refer to 'bugs' as 'insects' and vice versa

PS: I haven't read/seen Lord of the Rings so I prob won't pick that one

Ok, I meant insects as in 6 legged bugs and arachnid (spiders)
Crustaceans (crabs, lobsters etc...) would go in the sea life topic.
Hope that makes sense :)

And sorry about The Lord of the rings topic, I didn't know you hadn't seen it. I made that a topic because they are some of my favourite movies and the have lots of interesting characters that could be made from origami. Jason Ku's Nazgul is a popular lord of the rings model.

Ok then I pick topic 1 (bug/insect)

Oh i see, so that Nazgul is from Lord of the Rings. Thats pretty interesting. And no need to apologize; that's why there's 3 topics, right?

good luck!

Ok, topic no.1 it is.

Yep, that's why there are 3 topics :)

Thanks and again, good luck to you too. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I asked my younger brother, "What's the first thing you think of when you hear the word 'insect'?" and he replied "bee" so that's how I decided on this model:

I've been really interested in designing color change models as well as 22.5 degree models lately so I'm really happy with this model since it incorporates both. :)
The key point of the model is the color change on the abdomen.

Wow! That looks great! You designed that so quickly ;)
Will there be a cp? I would like to see the structure, since its 22.5 degree and that's a technique I am trying to learn.

Thanks!
And yeah, there are times where design ideas work out right away and other times where you just have to set it aside (for a few days/months) and work on something else. Fortunately, this one worked out right away(only used up two sheets of kami and two sheets of double tissue, where I usually end up exhausting 10+ kami and then give up designing that particular subject).

Since I don't have anything to do today(Saturday 1/12), most likely I'll make a CP. Can't guarentee it though...

Your welcome!
I love when designs work out right away. I managed to design a flying crane today in under an hour. I am so happy when ideas just work out on the first try. And then there are other times when I can spend hours trying to design something and I make absulutely no progress...

Cool, don't feel pressured to make a cp. But if you have the time that would be great :)

I have an idea for my insect, I will work on it tomorrow.

Flight Of The Grasshopper
Designed and folded by me.
This is obviously inspired by Brian Chan's amazing one. I am a big fan of his one and instead of working out the cps for his I decided to design my own.
The walking one is boxpleated on a grid of 40 and uses a 40cm square of tissue foil.
The perched one is boxpleated on a grid of 40 and uses a 40cm square of tissue foil. The perched one Cp is the same as the walking one but with a minor modification on the back legs.
The flying one is boxpleated on a grid of 52 and uses a 50cm square of paper.
Overall I am extremely happy with the way this turned out.
