Jun Maekawa - Devil (Hugo Pereira)

Post by Alexandre »

I am stuck on the step 50 of the diagram http://hugo.pereira.free.fr/Origami_Diagrams/Devil.pdf

Ii is written "Pull out one layer", so I did like unskinking a large sink fold that go "behind" too,
And then it does not look like the step 51 at all. Maybe I pull out too much paper ?

Any devil experts around ? :P

I'll give it a go and get back to you, unless someone else chimes in first.

It's an unsink on a single ply of paper, just along the left edge of the right most half-petal fold. You'll need to push it out from the inside, using your finger or a cocktail stick if you're using small paper.

thanks you, i had unsink too much paper in fact.

I finished the Devil but I am a bit disapointed by the big horns on the shoulders, it push the legs and the wings quite behind the model...
This is stange because for example on these pictures,

http://home.earthlink.net/~rosa_sanchez ... adevil.JPG
http://sites.inka.de/moebius/origami/JMaekawa-Devil.jpg

the horns are very little, but with the diagrams of Hugo Pereira, these horns are quite big, maybe on theses pictures it has been folded with the diagrams of Jun Maekawa ?

Looks like he's added a sink at the base of the horns to make them smaller.

are you sure that you made the step 40 right ?
it is the same as 30-39 but not on the square shown on the picture 30, it is on the square of the picture 40. It is the same fold but a more little scale.

sorry, I don´t understand
step 49 says: "Difficult: valley fold down wherer indicated. You will have to carefully release some paper trapped inside the model."
but when valley fold down, I don´t understand "release some paper trapped" to look like step 50,
sorry bad eng

Make sure that you´ve done step 47 correct. It´s a closed sink (forget the arrow), followed by a valley-fold to bring the flap back in the right position. As soon as you´ve done this step correct, step 49 shouldn´t be a problem any longer :)

i'm having trouble on those steps. from the "unsink" in 47 to the swivel part in 48 there is some paper in the back that makes the outcome of 49-50 not what it should be. but so far, even from reading this, i can't make heads or tails from it.

ok. i got it. my first time making anything with five fingers. but i'll want to try this a few more times. i wore down the paper a bit on those steps and my symmetry didn;t align very well so the body width is extended out a tad. nonetheless, it is very much the model intended.

can you please post photos on how to do step 47? if you could that would be very helpful. i have tried this step twice, and still haven't been able to complete it. i refuse to do the model without the horns.

in the step 47, you have to unwrap a bit of paper if I remember well.

And I think that there is an error in the step 46-48, but I do not remember exactly what.

And ... I remember that a website made by a guy from Israel got a page that indicate all the errors in the Devil's diagram. I forgot the address but maybe somebody knows it.

i finished this model without the horns. there is only one problem. when i begin steps 104-119, i don't have enough layers, leaving my finished model without eyes. it still looks good, but i would like it to have eyes. is this because i skipped steps 46-52? oh, and i don't think my model has a nose, either.
