124. steps aren't a measure of difficulty, though - ermakov's mantis shrimp has only 104 steps, yet it is one of the most difficult diagrammed models in existence.

......most of those models now seem easy to me once you are experienced with "lang type" folds........lots of weird references, and tons of sinking to thin legs, wings, etc etc etc.........truth be told though, the two models that stand out in my mind as the most difficult would have to be first the flying grasshopper, and second the flying eupatorus gracilicornus.......and im pretty sure i mangled the spelling on that last one....................................

what phillip failed to mention is that the maine lobster requires the dreaded quadruple-back-flip-open-triskaidecagon-open-closed-sink-unsink-sink!!!! OMG!!!! only 97th level panderan ninja white wizards who have +7 katana of truth and have collected 47 magenta pokemon have accomplished! better get cracking!

.....and just re-reading the last few posts......i will agree that the maine lobster is one of the most complex "lang type" models out there........insane references.......tons of precreasing once youve found those aformentioned insane references.......a rediculously complicated collapse sequence that left me baffled more than once.......i had to go back and correct the arrangement of flaps on my own....but after a few folds, its not so bad......but again.....this is only if your used to these "lang type" folds........good luckl and happy folding!.......

No, the lobster is not harder than Ryujin. The complications come from multiple thinning circle packed sinks. Annoying, but straightforward. Ermakov's mantis shrimp is probably ONE of the most complex diagram. But it doesn't use very radical techniques, just box-pleating. The diagrams are essentially an illustrated method of collapsing the CP.

Darn, you look at the base and think its angle bisectors and sinks, but maybe not?
I'm up for a challenge.
Common sense is not that common.

Yes, you bisect the angles forming many rabbit ears. But the initail boundaries are seemingly arbitrary. What I was referring to is, in the diagrams, one must open sink ALL the points in and out on the circle packed base. Quite tricky indeed.
