Bed Bug - Origami Masters, Bug Wars - need help

Post by Unforgettable »

Hi,

I need help with the bed bug from Origami Masters Bug Wars. I am on page 29 step 7 and can't seems to be able to reproduce the unwrapping towards step 8. The instructions for step 7 say "Unwrap one layer." but when I do this as indicated in the picture I end up with the large triangular flap pointing upwards instead of downwards as shown in the book (step 8). What am I missing? This steps seems simple enough...

I would add pictures but I don't know how and maybe some of you have that book.

Thanks in advance!

Update: So I managed to do the procedure once, but don't really know how. I'd still appreciate some insight since I have to do it again three times with the other flaps...

Unfold the petal fold and then just unfold the corner that was folded to the center and refold along the creases. Hope it helped! :D

Thanks for your help but very shortly after my last post, I realised how it is supposed to be unfolded. Found out a couple of steps later that the sink fold and stretch following are much more difficult than this silly unfolding thingy.

Finished the bug in no time and with quite the satisfying result. It was my first ever bug / complex model, I hope many will follow. 60 gsm Kraft was a bit thick tho...

I don't suppose anybody needs pictures for the process? I'll be folding it again with nice paper.

Congrats! No, I don't think anyone will need it. It's quite a simple model.

Great job on finishing it! And go ahead and post the pictures. Feel free to because you can never tell if someone else is maybe struggling with the same problem you did!
I would rather fail trying than fail without trying....

Congratulations from me too. I also think that it would be great if you would post those pictures, after all it may be helpful for someone else.

@s123ification: Just because the model may seem easy to you it doesn't mean that it has to be easy for everyone else. Saying no one will need it, sounds a bit arrogant to me, because obviously someone had problems on this step and he may not be the only one.

Hi everyone,

@sr123 No offense taken! I realise that I am still a beginner since I have only started Origami 4 weeks ago with no prior experience. I am still learning how to even read diagrams and need a lot of practise. A friend of mine gave me the Origami Masters book for my birthday and simply looking at it got me hooked.

This is my finished bedbug. It is the 8th model I have ever made so I like it even though the paper is not ideal.

I will post pictures of the steps I found difficult once I have finished refolding the bug with nice paper (need to learn how to make nice paper ;) There might be other beginners like me who appreciate it.

By the way, I really like the atmosphere in this forum, very friendly!

Great fold, very neat! I had a bit of a rage quit on this model and haven't gone back to it, so maybe your pics will help me out :)

Wow, looking at your more than impressive flickr pictures I can't believe you rage quit this model. I mean, you completed the leaf insect and all of your models seriously look like they're photoshopped...

Ha ha... some models give me more trouble than others! Very few of the folds on my flickr are first attempts, some of them are fourth or fifth tries. Also, I am a bit of a quitter... I've got loads of unfinished models!
