Origamation

Post by SeaShelly3 »

For about a month now I have had a vision of a music video for a song I really like. I was going to animate it in Flash, but upon discovering that the Flash software costs $400 for the limited version and $800 for the full version of Flash, I decided to instead try my hand at stop motion animation, the same form that Claymation uses... i.e. taking hundreds of pictures and animating them at 24 frames per second. Only instead of clay, I've decided to use - you guessed it - origami. I was wondering if anyone has ever seen something like this before. I ran a few searches on YouTube and found some stop motion animation of origami being built, but nobody who used it artistically. Anyways, I was just curious to hear your thoughts.

Wow! Sounds like something I'd have to try. Theres only two problems: 1. Yo u have to be able to pose your models and 2. Your models would have to stand on thier own. So, you'll have to make a pretty reliable model. Good luck! :D

The cool thing is, the song is about chess. (It's actually a song that uses chess as a metaphor for war.) I'm making the chessboard and Joseph Wu's chess pieces, and I'm going to put little faces on the few pieces that are "characters" in the song. To have them move, I'll probably attach some clear string to the tops and just make them "hop" from one square to another. I'm cheating a little bit by connecting the pieces of my chessboard with tape on the bottom, but I have to be able to move it and everything. ^^;;

Thanks!

It looks like classic Czech animations. I like it. (...and save link to Favorites)

That has to be the best origami movie I've ever seen!

Wow, that's awesome! So I'm not the first one to think of it, but I'm still excited to finish it. I've got three rows of my chessboard done, and I've just been practicing the pieces so far - nothing I plan to use in the final movie, because I haven't perfected the Queen and Bishop yet. I also need to find a good tree and cat diagram... but I'll get to that eventually. Thanks for the link, that's totally cool. :)
