Brill's book never received!

Post by paperz »

I ordered David Brill's 'Brilliant Origami' like almost 9 months ago from Amazon....they never sent me the book and kept postponing the date they promised to send it out. Finally now they say it is not available but they have this 'Search Inside' Option available for that book! How can they do something like that. I used a gift certificate to order it and its gone now with no book in hand! Any suggestions how i can get the book at the least?

same thing happened to me with Lang's Design secrets, first they gave two weeks of "normal delay on delivery", at fourth I complained, and their answer was... three extra weeks! (and a blah blah blah about I should understand they have external sources, they do their best but they are only retailers, this is no amazon standard...). After seven weeks, I complained again and same apologies, $10 of refund and a personal commitment from I-don't-know-who that before June 24th they will send it... or cancel the purchase. I bought it on April 26th and even the canceling-order page doesn't work. :?

I decided to buy it at OrigamiUSA Source, they have a limited stock, but their prices are better, they are not perfect anyway (I still waits answer for a Kamiya's book I ordered some weeks ago).

I've bought things on amazon before and never had this kind of problems, seems that origami book sources are not too reliable...

David Brill's "Brilliant Origami" is now out of print, which may be why you have not recieved it.

Not entirely true... the English edition IS out of print, but you can get hold of the new Brazilian edition called "Origami Brilhante". See here:

A shame, as it is a really great book - some splendid designs, with Brilly's insight into how some of them were created. Models for every folder, from simple, to modular, to complex, to wet-folded.

As always, there is the second hand market, i.e.,

eBay

If I were you, I'd complain to Amazon several times per day, every day, stating how long you have been kept waiting, and don't stop until you get your money back, as well as vouchers for the inconvenience. Or the book, of course ;-)

I once set up an origami PLC. But the business folded.

Yah, I have had some bad luck with amazon, waiting forever for orders, etc. Don't let them off with taking your money like that. Make sure you hound them untill they refund you entirely.

If you can't fold it, try a bazooka.

That's the way to do it. Just give someone plenty of cash to stock up for a visit to the Origami House. And if you're lucky, you can meet Kamiya-san himself. :D
